Lancers Defeat Monrovia

Heading into the 2018 baseball season, La Salle brought back our reigning Pasadena Sports Now Pitcher of the Year Zane Lindeman.

A great sign of things to come for first-year coach Eddie McKiernan is that so far Landon Smith has looked like an ace.

Smith went 6 innings and struck out 8 to lead La Salle to an 8-4 victory over host Monrovia in their own tournament.

The victory not only improves La Salle’s record to 5-0, it puts the Lancers in the championship game of the Dave Moore Classic on Saturday.

It was also a homecoming for McKiernan, as he faced his alma mater, the same Monrovia program he led to a CIF title.

Zane Lindeman finished off the Wildcats in the seventh inning.

Ethan Patrick went 2 for 3 and was hit by pitch.

Patrick doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Mark Daley had a 2-RBI double.

Brennan Mace added two hits and three RBIs for La Salle.

Luke Heiberg went 1 for 3 with a single and sac fly.

La Salle coach Eddie McKiernan: “Our boys played well, two-out hitting won us the game. Landon pitched great. He had a tough third inning, but battled and was very strong after that. It was definitely different being in the visitors dugout. Both teams competed very well. Monrovia is physical, those boys put a lot of quality at-bats together.”

La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: “Landon pitched outstanding. He hit all his spots and made the big pitches to keep us in the game. His great pitching gave us momentum to get the offense rolling.”
