Baseball: Poly Pounds Out 15 Hits in Friday’s 10-4 Victory at Ganesha in CIF Division 6 Quarterfinal; Panthers Get Five Solid Innings From Franco Alonso

Ganesha actually led top-seeded Poly after the first inning by a score of 1-0.

But it was all Poly after that.

The Panthers hammered Ganesha starter David Lopez and cruised to a 10-4 victory in the CIF-SS Division 6 quarterfinals.

Five separate Panthers had at least two hits on Friday.

Franco Alonso picked up the victory for Poly after taking over in the second and going five strong innings.

Alonso allowed three runs on four hits.

The junior right hander walked a pair of batters and struck out 10.

Matt Loomis went the first inning and allowed one run on a hit and two walks.

Matt Queen closed out the Giants in the seventh with a scoreless final frame in which he fanned two.

David Lopez got the loss, after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 14 hits over his six innings Friday.

Lopez walked one and struck out four.

Offensively, Alonso went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

David Mathias doubled twice, scored once and had a pair of RBIs.

Ben Bryson and Jackson Hayes each had three hits, two runs scored and one RBI apiece.

Both Hayes and Bryson doubled.

Joe Masters went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Ty Evans, Sean McTigue and Matt Queen had one hit each for Poly.

The Panthers will host Pomona (19-6) on Tuesday in the CIF-SS Division 6 semifinals after the Red Devils picked up a 10-1 victory over Bishop Diego in their quarterfinal contest on Friday.
