Craftober at the Rose Bowl was beer heaven

Hundreds of hungry beer lovers descended on the Brookside Park Golf Course Saturday—also known as The Greens on the Rose Bowl Stadium—for an afternoon of designer beers, polka, some picnic games, and a host of local food providers.

The second annual Craftober event featured more than 20 craft beer brands, anyone of which matched heartily with the nearly dozen food providers, including local faves, Robin’s BBQ.

Festmeister Hans fronted Die Sauerkrauts, a spirited trio who delivered an array of tunes that all sounded perfectly like “Roll Out the Barrel.” Two hours into the afternoon event, a sizable crowd had gathered around the stage to sing whatever Hans asked.

“This is my second trip here, and I brought my mother,” said Leticia Fuentes, 34, of Arcadia, a hearty oversized beer stein in tow. She was last seen headed toward the NFL Sunday Night Football Tour bus, which offered guests a chance to create personalized NFL “intro” videos, and see NFL-abilia up close behind glass.

The event was part of the Rose Bowl leadership team’s ongoing efforts to develop new and creative uses for the park and stadium, increasingly challenged in venue-rich Southern California.
