Pleasing the diners’ palate and providing a memorable, personal dining experience has been the mission of Bistro45, which recently celebrated its 22nd anniversary last Monday evening.

The evening was filled with sounds of cutlery and laughter as Bistro45 owner and restaurateur Robert Simon exchanged banter with his guests.

“I am not the star here. The food is the star here, you are the star here,” Simon said, addressing his audience.

Simon greeted guests with a glass of Gruet Sparkling Rose, signaling the start of the party. Tables were filled with seafood brandade, pork rillette, house mustard, baquette and cornichons. Then came copious amounts of steamed mussels, Pomme Frites, Bloomsdale spinach tarts, and a chopped Caesar salad.

For the entree guests were served Leg of Aussie Lamb, Seared Scottish Salmon and Grilled Winter Veggies with Aged Balsamic. The meal concluded with platters of Petit Fours: Dark Chocolate Truffles, Champagne Lemon Tartletts and Mini Opera Cakes.

Guests enjoyed their meal with three wines: a fruit-filled Spanish white Destinos 2010 Macabeo; a Grenache/Syrah blend Jean Luc Colombo’s 2009 Cotes du Rhone Rouge; and from Australia’s Buller a Robert Parker 93 pt. Fine Tawny Port.

Chef Steven Lona, who has an excellent local background working in the kitchens at Costa Mesa’s Marche Moderne and at Studio at the Montage in Laguna Beach, maintains French bistro cooking but using local and organic products.

Over the past years, Bistro45 has been honored by Zagat Survey as one of the “Top Forty Restaurants in Southern California 1994 – 2011″; cited by Wine Spectator as “Top Ten Restaurants and Wine Lists in L.A”; and Michelin recommended 2008 – 2010.

Not only the superb and satisfying entrees and fine wines that Simon attributed to the success of Bistro45, he also mentioned that he values his relationship with friends who have been helping and supporting him for 30 years.

“If everyone of you is having a special time with one another, it makes the restaurant and restaurant business worth doing,” Simon said as he expressed gratitude to his loyal clientele who have been patronizing Bistro45 for more than two decades.
