Brrr! Cold Storm Zeroes in on Pasadena

A storm system rolling toward Pasadena could bring cold temperatures, the threat of brief heavy rain, small hail and a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said in a forecast discussion early Wednesday.

Thursday, the service said, will be “a very interesting weather day,” when some of the coldest air in many years will enter the area from the northeast. The system, it said, originated in Alberta, Canada and traveled over land so there was no opportunity for warmer ocean waters to modify the cold air mass.

By Friday, dry weather is expected, and temperatures will gradually warm into next week, the NWS said.

Thursday promises a chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible after 10 a.m. It should be partly sunny, with a high near 55, with a west northwest wind at five to 10 miles per hour.

Thursday night portends a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m. Lows could be very low, around 37.

A touch of normalcy, as mentioned above, is on tap for a Friday that is sunny, with a high near the almost bearable thermometer mark of 58 and a north wind at around five mph.
