The World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales, a group of Clydesdale horses used for promotions and commercials by the St. Louis, Missouri-based Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company, will be part of the 127th Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.

To kick off the festivities, the hitch team and red wagon will perform during the Equestfest on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center at 480 West Riverside Drive in Burbank. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the show begins at high noon.

On Friday, January 1, 2016, the Budweiser Clydesdales will once again stroll down Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard during the Rose Parade, one of America’s largest New Year’s celebrations.

The Pasadena visit is one of hundreds of appearances it will make this year as part of a nationwide tour for the hitch team. The Budweiser Clydesdales made their first appearance on behalf of Anheuser-Busch on April 7, 1933, when they delivered a case of Budweiser to the White House in celebration of the repeal of prohibition of beer.

The Clydesdale breed originated from Great Flemish horses, bred by farmers living in the 19th century along the banks of the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, Scotland. These large horses were used as draft animals that could pull loads of more than one ton at a walking speed of five miles per hour. In the mid-1800s, Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to the United States where the draft horses resumed their existence on farms. Today, the Clydesdales are used primarily for breeding and show.

The Budweiser Clydesdales reside at the Anheuser-Busch breweries in St. Louis, Merrimack, N.H. and Ft. Collins, Colorado for public viewing. Visitors can also see the Clydesdales up-close at Warm Springs Ranch, the premier Budweiser Clydesdales breeding establishment in Boonville, Mo. and at their training facility on the grounds of Grant’s Farm in St. Louis. Both attractions are open seasonally.
