Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association

The historic Bungalow Heaven neighborhood of Pasadena boasts quiet tree-lined streets, a close-knit community, and one of the best collections of Arts and Crafts era bungalows in the United States.

On April 29th, visitors can experience the charm of Bungalow Heaven, which earned its status as Pasadena’s first Historic Landmark District and a place on the U. S. National Register of Historic Places.  The annual home tour event allows visitors to stroll the neighborhood on a self-guided tour with an opportunity to view the interiors of eight homes, accompanied by docent-led commentaries about the homes’ architectural details and history.  The home tour map visitors receive will highlight areas with restoration demonstrations, music entertainment, noteworthy front gardens as well as stations of Bungalow Heaven’s famous homemade cookies, and lemonade.  Multiple food trucks will be on hand for visitors who wish to purchase lunch.

The 16 block area of Bungalow Heaven is located north of the 210 Freeway, bordered by Orange Grove and Washington Boulevards and Lake and Hill Avenues.  The neighborhood is home to hundreds of Craftsman homes, constructed between 1905 and 1925.  The Arts & Crafts architecture reflected a movement away from the ornate Victorian style to simpler structures in harmony with nature. Materials such as river rock and redwood shingles were commonly used in constructing these unique homes, which typically include front porches and wide windows. Interior details of wood, tile and glass reflect this year’s theme of “Craftsmanship on Display”.

The Bungalow Heaven Home Tour offers a 45-minute docent-led trolley tour of the Landmark District architecture for $10 per person.  The cookbook, At Home With Bungalow Heaven Cookies, will be available for purchase and includes recipes for the most popular cookies available on the tour. A silent auction and/or ticketed raffle will take place at McDonald Park offering visitors a chance to win beautiful Arts and Crafts related items. You can remember your Bungalow Heaven experience with logo decorated items purchased at our mercantile stand.

More information on the Bungalow Heaven Home Tour and ticket sales can be found at www.bungalowheaven.org or by calling (626) 585-2172. Tickets are $25 per person if purchased in advance and $30 the day of the tour.  Tickets, informational tour brochures, and maps will be available at McDonald Park, near the intersection of Mar Vista Avenue and Mountain Street.

Note: Due to the historic nature of the homes, disabled access to houses on the tour is not available.
