Caltech Women’s Tennis Releases 2017 Schedule

The Caltech women’s tennis team comes off its best season in a decade and will contest 12 home matches and 10 on the road in 2017, in addition to the individual ITA Fall Regionals in Claremont from Friday, Sept. 30-Sunday, Aug. 2 and the Ojai Valley Tournament.

The Beavers begin the season with a trip to the Pacific Northwest, where they will face Linfield College on Saturday, Jan. 28 and George Fox University the following day. A week later, Head Coach Mandy Gamble’s squad hosts Biola University in the home opener on Friday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. looking to avenge last season’s tight 5-4 defeat in La Mirada.

Caltech wastes no time in beginning SCIAC play, crossing the 110 Freeway to take on Occidental College, against which rising junior Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) clinched a 5-4 victory last year, on Saturday, Feb. 11 before hosting No. 40 California Lutheran University in an Orange Out on Friday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.

Caltech welcomes a pair of non-regional opponents in No. 28 Brandeis University on Monday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. and Bates College on Friday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. The Beavers then head to No. 5 CMS on Saturday, Mar. 4 ahead of a seven-match home stand, including four matches against regional foes.

Hardin-Simmons University opens the run on Saturday, Mar. 11, followed by the University of Puget Sound on Sunday, Mar. 19, No. 13 Sewanee: The University of the South on Wednesday, Mar. 23 and Principia College the next day, all at 11 a.m. Whitworth University arrives on Tuesday, Mar. 28 for a 2 p.m. matchup, after which the Beavers return to conference play with home dates against No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, Apr. 8 at 10 a.m. and Chapman University at 2 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 14, which will serve as the team’s Senior Day.

Caltech closes out the regular season on the road at No. 19 University of Redlands on Saturday, Apr. 15 and Whittier College on Saturday, Apr. 22. Gamble will take the team out to Ventura the following weekend for the 117th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament, with the SCIAC Championships set for the weekend after, hosted at Redlands.
