Captain Brian Davies, Commander, Submarine Squadron 11 will be the speaker at the Pasadena Rotary Club on Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 introduced by Captain William Creedon, President of the Pasadena Navy League and the USS Pasadena Foundation on the topic: “Today’s Navy and the USS Pasadena: Its Crew, Its Mission, and an Appreciation for Their Dedication to the Defense of Our Country.”

Lunch, meeting and presentation begins at 12 p.m. at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena. The public is welcome to attend no reservations necessary check in at registration. Luncheon tickets are $32

The USS Pasadena (“SSN 752”) is the third vessel and first submarine so named in the United States Navy. Her missions include anti-submarine warfare and strike warfare. The USS Pasadena Foundation works “to extend world famous Pasadena hospitality to the crew aboard SSN 752 in appreciation of their dedication to the defense of Our Country and service to our Boat.” Thanks to good friend to the club and President of the USS Pasadena Foundation, Bill Creedon, we are able to have Captain Brian Davies speak to us.

Captain Davies was born in Wilmington, Delaware. He was commissioned in 1991 after graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Ocean Engineering from The United States Naval Academy. Following graduation, Captain Davies attended The Pennsylvania State University as part of the Immediate Graduate Education Program and he completed his Masters of Science in Acoustics in 1993.

In 1994, Captain Davies reported to USS HYMAN G. RICKOVER (SSN 709) following his initial nuclear power training. Onboard USS HYMAN G. RICKOVER, Captain Davies held multiple Division Officer assignments that included Reactor Control Assistant, Main Propulsion Assistant, Chemistry/Radiological Control Assistant, and Damage Control Assistant.

In October 1997, Captain Davies reported to Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut, where he served as an instructor for multiple courses including SOAC and SOBC. Upon completion of his shore duty, Captain Davies served onboard USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739) (BLUE) as Engineer Officer from July 1999 until October 2002. Captain Davies then transferred to Commander Submarine Development Squadron FIVE where he served as OIC of Detachment Bangor and the Squadron Engineer.

From September 2004 until May 2006, Captain Davies served as the Executive Officer onboard USS HOUSTON (SSN 713) during which the ship completed an Engineered Refueling Overhaul, change of homeport to the Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Guam, and a Guam Mission Cycle.
Upon Completion of his Executive Officer tour, Captain Davies was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel as the Submarine Officer Distribution Branch Head and XO/Post-XO Detailer.

From June 2009 to March 2012, Captain Davies served onboard USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN 23) as the ship’s third Commanding Officer. During his time onboard, the ship completed three deployments and a shipyard maintenance period. Following his Command tour, he has been assigned to the staff of the Chief of Naval Personnel in the Nuclear Propulsion Program Office and as the Military Assistant to the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.

Captain Davies’ personal awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards)
