A car traveling down North Lake Avenue suddenly careened wildly across lanes of oncoming traffic and slammed into a liquor store wall Tuesday afternoon about 4:30 p.m., seriously injuring one of the four young men inside the car and wreaking havoc inside the store.

Pasadena police Lt. Max Dahlstein said investigators don’t yet know what threw the car out of control. The 19-year-old injured passenger is expected to survive.

Nobody inside the store, Showcase Liquors at 1392 North Lake Avenue, was injured, Dahlstein said.

The Pasadena Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Unit was called to the scene to inspect the structural integrity of the building.

They found it safe and didn’t red-tag it, Dahlstein said.

“Plenty of a mess inside, that’s for sure,” he said.
