For those who feel loyalty and hard work are overrated, here is the story of Andrea Damian and her 20-year journey from being a fresh graduate to sales manager at Ellen’s Silkscreening.

“I was a student at Art Center and I came here to be a receptionist thru an ad at Women at Work,” says Damian, “I ended up moving through all the different positions here. I did purchasing, I did bookkeeping and then I did sales and now I’m doing the sales managing. So I’ve kind of had my hand in all aspects of the company.”

Art School and a degree in the school of hard knocks has paid off for Damian, though she didn’t really imagine staying for 20 years at Ellen’s. However, Damian tells us that Ellen’s is “a stimulating place to work and because the job is exciting, it’s never redundant in that sense. There’s just constantly new stuff all the time. Our clients are fun and creative and it’s a good place to work.”

They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it looks like such is the case for Damian.

From being a receptionist to sales manager, it’s obvious that Damian’s responsibilities have grown as well. “I do my own sales,” says Damian, “I have clients that I have been working with for as long as I’ve been here. Most of my clients rely on me to come up with products or suggestions, the things that would work well for them. Then, I oversee two other sales associates here and help them with their sales and their clients.”

It’s certainly a far cry being a receptionist.

For 20 years, Damian still finds her job fascinating and enjoyable. Handling sales personally has given her opportunities to work with many interesting people and clients, from schools to businesses to the entertainment industry. “I feel lucky to work with a very diverse group of clients,” says Damian, “from people doing family reunions and birthday parties, to people like the Getty Museum and the Mad Men show, including working with the star Jon Hamm. It’s pretty exciting and impressive. That’s what makes it interesting every day.”

Ellen’s Silkscreening has been serving the Pasadena, Greater Los Angeles, and San Gabriel Valley, as well as internationally, since 1978, and aside from its competitive prices and quality work, the company prides itself for giving the best customer service.
