Chapcare Opens New State-of-the-Art Healthcare Facility on North Lake Avenue

Chapcare has opened a newly-built, state-of-the-art facility in Pasadena.

Formerly the Community Health Alliance of Pasadena, Chapcare completed preparation and opened its new relocation last May 20, moving its Lake Health Center a few blocks south to 1595 North Lake Avenue.

It has been dubbed the Kathryn Barger Health Center after the present local representative on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

And that’s because The Fifth District Supervisor was reportedly instrumental in securing “generous funding” from Los Angeles County Supervisor that, combined with additional funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), made the new Chapcare home a reality.

The former Lake Health Center had five medical exam rooms. The new facility now has 12.

“Our health center here is a hub for people who need primary health care and who also may have complicated conditions that require a little bit extra counseling or support from trained professionals,” Chapcare chief executive officers Margaret Martinez said on opening day.

Last year, Chapcare’s Lake Health Center provided over 6,800 medical visits to 2,396 unduplicated patients. With more than 4,500 square feet of space, the new facility will absorb current patients from Lake Health Center, and should be able to serve up to 3,800 unduplicated patients.

“This is a partnership between the county and the city of Pasadena, and while the city has their own public health clinic, it’s important for us to partner with all of our 88 cities,” said Barger, who attended the launch. “But Pasadena really does go one step above because they put their resources in play and really allow us to do an incredible job as a partner with the county Los Angeles.”

Chapcare said the Kathryn Barger Health Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility which offers primary medical care, health insurance screening and enrollment, and pharmacy services (via delivery). Behavioral health counseling will be added in the future to achieve a fully integrated model.

The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Like its other locations, ChapCare provides low-or no-cost health services (Medi-Cal and Medicare) and accepts many Covered California and private insurance plans at the new health center.

Today, ChapCare operates four health centers in Pasadena, one in Monrovia, and three in El Monte and South El Monte. Overall, ChapCare provides 78,000 primary healthcare visits annually to 16,500 patients.
