Photographer Chris Strother will be presenting a photographic study called “of fervor & thew” on Saturday, April 29, at Wellrock, located at 2460 Lake Avenue in Altadena.
The study will include music by Gillian Luna Chamberlain, a performance by artist Alma Cielo, readings by S.W. Lauden and jewelry by Eli Strother.
“I love the romance of film … its quirks and nuances that are difficult to replicate in digital,” Strother said. “Given a choice, I’ll shoot film and probably black and white. Its timeless quality is my favorite. I will take a stormy rainy day over a sunny day anytime. Especially when it comes to photography.”
Strother has been making photographs since age 19, learning bits and pieces along the way with classes at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and assisting other photographers. He is primarily self-taught and has honed his skills as a documentarian of people.
“Some say that my work is timeless and soulful. I’ll take that as a compliment. My approach is subtle and gentle, yet directive by default. I believe it is of utmost importance that my subjects feel comfortable with me, at ease. Once there’s a feeling of ‘trust’ established between us, the magic can unfold,” Strother says on his website, www.chrisstrother.com.
A taco truck will also be outside Wellrock during the exihibit, just BYOB (bring your own bottle).
