Three very different ways of celebrating Christmas Eve are offered at First United Methodist Church this year. Children and youth will lead a family-friendly service at 5:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. At 8:00 an outdoor, informal service of carols and prayer will take place on the bleachers that are set up in front of the church for the Tournament of Roses Parade viewing on New Years Day.
Then, at 11:00 p.m., a traditional candlelight service featuring choir, orchestra and Holy Communion will be offered in the sanctuary. The church’s Chancel Choir and professional orchestra will offer a performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria at 10:30 p.m. before the service begins.
“People celebrate this holy night in different ways,” said Rev. Sandra Olewine, the church’s Pastor. “By offering a variety of services we hope they will fit in people’s personal holiday habits.”
First United Methodist Church is located at 500 E. Colorado Blvd, in the Playhouse District of Pasadena. Off-street parking is available behind the church and may be accessed from Green Street (a one-way street that runs east; access from Los Robles Avenue).
