Chubbs, the chill Himalayan mix cat of substantial girth who weighed 29 pounds when he was found lost in Altadena last week, has a new home in Monrovia.

Chubbs became an internet sensation after the Pasadena Humane Society put out the word he had been found, and tried to find his owner — to no avail.

So today, the Humane Society invited qualified potential families to come in at noon to their South Raymond Avenue headquarters to apply to adopt Chubbs, freshly examined by veterinarians and shorn of some of his matted fur.

Despite the massive publicity and the hundreds of calls the Humane Society received, only one couple showed up to apply to adopt Chubbs.

Yvette and Ruben Viola, who recently lost their family cat of 14 years, will be Chubbs new family.
