City Manager Michael J. Beck has issued a statement in anticipation of Monday’s City Council Organizational Meeting, which will see Mayor-elect Terry Tornek and City Councilmember-elect Tyron Hampton sworn into office.

“Monday, May 4th will be a transformative day in Pasadena. We will say goodbye to our beloved Mayor Bill Bogaard after serving 16 years as the City’s first city-wide elected mayor. To our Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson, it might be appropriate to say “until we meet again.”

On behalf of the City staff, I would like to share our sincere gratitude to Mayor Bogaard and Vice Mayor Robinson for their dedication and commitment to the community. Their leadership and that of the entire City Council has enabled this great city to manage through difficult times and continue to prosper.

Monday will also be a day of new beginnings with the swearing in of Mayor-elect Terry Tornek and Councilman-elect Tyrone Hampton. Returning Council members Margaret McAustin, Steve Madison and Gene Masuda will be sworn in for new four-year terms.

Mayor Bogaard and Vice Mayor Robinson leave the Council with the City on strong financial footing with a General Fund surplus for the third year in a row. Our programs and services are providing positive impact on the quality of life in our community and Pasadena continues to be viewed as a national model for smart growth. Our economy trajectory is steadily climbing with the ongoing implementation of the Economic Development Strategic Plan . Importantly, this growth is occurring in a more sustainable and environmentally conscious fashion consistent with our Green action Plan. It is not to say that the new Mayor and City Council will not have challenging issues to deal with, but to recognize that Pasadena remains prosperous and the leadership of the new Mayor and City Council will ensure continued positive outcomes for our great City.

We wish Mayor Bogaard and Vice Mayor Robinson as they pursue their next adventures and welcome Mayor-elect Tornek and Councilman-elect Hampton to their new leadership positions within the City.
Respectfully submitted,

Michael Beck
