Claire and Bill Bogaard will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Friends In Deed at the group’s 125th anniversary Jazz on the Green celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

An attorney and former professor at the University of Michigan and USC, Bill Bogaard served as Pasadena mayor from May of 1999 to May of 2015, which is the longest term of any mayor in history.

Claire Bogaard is well-regarded for her active participation in a variety of community groups and is recognized for her generosity and work with various organizations in Pasadena. She is a co-founder of Pasadena Heritage, a well-known nonprofit historic preservation organization

“They’re two very unassuming people who have done so much for Pasadena,” said Richard Cheung D.C., president of Friends In Deed.  “It’s time for them to be honored.”

Friends In Deed is a nonprofit that runs several transformative support programs: The Food Pantry, The Women’s Room, Homeless Prevention and The Bad Weather Shelter.

Members of the Pasadena community expressed the feelings many feel for the Bogaards.

“No two people have done more for Pasadena than Claire and Bill and they certainly are both dynamic individuals,” said Sue Mossman, executive director of Pasadena Heritage.  “Together, they are Pasadena champions beyond measure!”

City Councilwoman Margaret McAustin said the Bogaards have been instrumental in her success serving political office.

“Pasadena would not be the place it is without the indelible stamp of Bill and Claire Bogaard,” McAustin said. “They have both done so much to help Pasadena maintain its architectural integrity and political integrity and sense of self because of their relentless work to preserve what’s great about Pasadena.

McAustin said “Bill has been a mentor and there’s no way I would have been serving 12 years without his support. The years I served with him here have been the best years. Bill and Claire are an amazing couple.”

Friends In Deed celebrates its 125th anniversary at Castle Green from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where there will be music and entertainment, a silent auction, wine tasting and restaurants will be represented.
