The city on Tuesday shut down the pickleball courts at Allendale Park in Pasadena in response to players shirking COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, officials said.
Non-contact sporting facilities, such as pickleball and tennis courts, were reopened in May after being closed as a pandemic precaution.
But repeated problems at the pickleball court at Allendale Park, 1130 S. Marengo Ave., prompted officials to take action on Tuesday, said city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.
“Despite repeated reminders from city staff that only singles play is allowed, players continued to play doubles,” Derederian said. “As a result, the courts are closed to help lower the risk of spread of COVID.”
The move came two weeks after the city reclosed the Oak Grove Disc Golf Course at Hahamongna Park due to similar issues.
Authorities urged the public to observe social distancing at Pasadena’s recreational facilities to help prevent further closures.
“Please help stop the spread and keep amenities open by following the safety guidelines,” city officials wrote in a tweet.
