Community Meeting on Heritage Square Development Set to Focus on New Working Group

Published on Thursday, July 16, 2009 | 8:48 am

The future development of the Heritage Square site in Pasadena will be the topic of a community meeting Thursday, July 23, at 6 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

Hosted by the Northwest Commission and the Fair Oaks Project Area Committee, the meeting will include an introduction of the Heritage Square Request for Proposals Working Group and a discussion of the group’s responsibilities.

The nearly three-acre project would be built on Fair Oaks Avenue between Orange Grove Boulevard and Painter Street owned by the Pasadena Community Development Commission.

The previous process for selecting a developer was unsuccessful; exclusive negotiations in the most recent endeavor were terminated in December 2008. Obstacles included the inability to obtain financing for mixed-use development and for sale housing as well as challenging economic and housing market conditions.

The new committee consists of two representatives each from the Fair Oaks Project Area Committee, Northwest Commission and Pasadena Housing Department.
