Congresswoman Judy Chu has endorsed Phlunte’ Riddle for State Senate District 25, the Riddle campaign said.

“Phlunte’ is the most qualified candidate to fight for our communities and expand the middle class,” said Congresswoman Chu. “She doesn’t let obstacles get in her way. Phlunte’ has a lifetime of experience breaking down barriers to succeed, and she’ll work the hardest to ensure middle-class families have more opportunities to build a solid economic footing with local good-paying jobs and an affordable college education for their kids.”

Congresswoman Judy Chu is the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress and is one of the most respected and recognized Democratic elected officials in the region. She has served the community as a school board member, council member, Assemblymember, and as Chair of the California Board of Equalization.

The endorsement from Congresswoman Chu is a significant boost for Riddle as the campaign heads into the California Democratic Party endorsement process in January.

Riddle has picked up major endorsements in recent days from Congresswoman Karen Bass, Assemblymembers Susan Bonilla, Cheryl Brown, Jim Cooper, Cristina Garcia, Chris Holden, and Dr. Shirley Weber, Senators Isadore Hall, Hannah-Beth Jackson, Connie Leyva, and Holly Mitchell, and Los Angeles Community College Trustee Sydney Kamlager.

The Mexican American Bar Association PAC, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, National Women’s Political Caucus of California, and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus have also endorsed Riddle for Senate.
Local law enforcement groups have united in support of Riddle as well. They include the Sierra Madre Police Association, Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Police Officer Association, Glendora Police Officer’s Association, Claremont Police Officer’s Association, and Pasadena Police Officer’s Association.

Riddle resides in Pasadena with her husband of 37 years and is the mother of three adult sons. Riddle spent nearly 29 years rising through the ranks of the Pasadena Police Department to become the first woman to be permanently assigned as a gang/street narcotics officer and the first African American female sergeant and lieutenant. She retired as a lieutenant, serving as Public Information Officer & Adjutant to the Chief of Police.

Riddle is also an adjunct professor at Golden West College and owns a consulting company where she trains executives and helps solve communications challenges in organizations.

The 25th State Senate District encompasses the communities of Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale, Bradbury, Claremont, Duarte, Glendora, La Cañada-Flintridge, La Verne, Monrovia, San Dimas, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, Upland, Altadena, La Crescenta, Montrose, Atwater Village, and Sunland-Tujunga.
