Pasadena City Councilmember John J. Kennedy will lead a community meeting Wednesday, May 25, to hear updates from the Pasadena Police Department about the spate of shooting incidents and other police-related matters. The meeting will also discuss updates about the Heritage Square project and the Robinson Park renovation project.

Kennedy said the meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Robinson Park Multipurpose Room and will be open to the public. The venue is located at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena.

“The Police Department will an opportunity to share as much as it needs to within the time given,” Kennedy said when asked about the police update portion that’s on the meeting’s agenda. “It’s only an hour and a half meeting, and we want to find out what the police is doing related to shootings that occurred, or solving crimes. The fact of the matter is that the overall crime has gone down, although we have an uptick of certain kinds of violence that has been unacceptable.”

The Pasadena Police Department recently reported the overall crime statistics have gone down at least 15 percent.

An update on the use of body cameras by Pasadena police officers will also be presented. Kennedy said an issue about storage space for the department’s body cameras has been resolved. Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez is expected to report about that and other matters during the meeting.
