Councilmember Tyron Hampton Unanimously Elected Vice Mayor

Term to begin next May

First District Councilmember Tyron Hampton was unanimously elected by the City Council Monday to serve as Pasadena’s 2019 Vice Mayor serving under Mayor Terry Tornek. Hampton’s term will begin on May 6, 2019 and run through December 7, 2020.

Hampton was elected to the City Council in 2015, and also serves on the Public Safety Committee.

Born and raised in Pasadena, he attended Cleveland Elementary, Washington Middle School and John Muir High School. Taking additional college courses from Pasadena City College while attending Muir, he then studied at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he earned Bachelor degrees in Food Marketing and Agriculture Biology.

Prior to serving on City Council, Tyron was elected to the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Directors in 2013.

As a Board Member, Tyron helped lead the introduction of Wi-Fi into all PUSD schools, created a PUSD newsletter, implemented parent school site meetings and staff meetings, worked on the creation of STEAM magnet programs, implemented campus physical inspections for repairs, increased science and technology resources at Cleveland elementary.

Hampton will follow Councilmember John Kennedy, who served two terms as Vice-Mayor.
