[Updated]  Pasadena City Councilmember Victor M. Gordo announced Friday morning he has filed necessary nomination papers to officially become a qualified candidate for the upcoming March 2020 Pasadena Mayoral race.

Despite needing only 50 signatures to qualify for the 2020 election, hundreds of Pasadena residents signed on in support of Gordo’s candidacy for Mayor.

“I am incredibly honored by this show of support and look forward to continuing to work to expand our coalition and build a movement across every corner of Pasadena, so that we can bring Pasadena together to address complex issues affecting every part of our city, and ensure that City Hall is responsive to all people in our city,” Gordo said.

Last month, Gordo’s campaign announced that it had surpassed $100,000 raised only a few weeks since formally launching his campaign.

Gordo faces incumbent Mayor Terry Tornek, City Commissioner Jason Hardin and local businessman Major Williams in the race. Other candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday night to file in order to compete in the election.
