Critically Acclaimed Novelist Francesca Lia Block Named PCCs 2014 Writer in Residence

Block, best known for her young adult novels, including Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books – one of NPR’s 100 Best-Ever Teen Novels – is the author of more than 25 books of fiction, non-fiction, short stories, and poetry. She is also winner of the Spectrum Award, the Phoenix Award, the American Library Association Rainbow Award, and the 2005 Margaret A. Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award.  Her new novel is Beyond the Pale Motel.

PCC’s Writer-in-Residence Program aims to enrich the cultural environment of the College and the larger community by bringing to campus for a period of three days a distinguished local writer to interact with students, faculty, staff, and community members. In addition to visiting several classrooms, speaking with creative writing students, and attending a luncheon with English Division faculty, Block will be featured at several events that are open to the public:

On Tuesday, October 21, Block will conduct a Writing Workshop in the Circadian Room on PCC’s campus from 12-1:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 22, she will hold a Reading and Discussion at the Pasadena Senior Center, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.  Also on Wednesday, Block will conduct a Writing Workshop at the Senior Center at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, October 24, following a private reception, Block will read from Beyond the Pale Motel, in PCC’s Creveling Lounge at 7 p.m.  The author’s books will be available for purchase at the readings.

All the events are free and open to the public although seating at some events may be limited.
