PCC Dental Lab Tech to Hold Comedy Night Fundraiser

The Pasadena City College Dental Laboratory Technology program will be hosting a “Comedy Relief From Midterms Night” on Nov. 12 to help raise funds for its students.

Evan Cassidy, a professional stand-up comedian, will be performing from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the R Building, Room 122. Tailored for college students, Cassidy’s unique, one-man show draws influences from legendary comedians such as Andy Kaufman and Dave Chappelle.

“It’s a great way to take the students’ minds off of the stresses of school and get together for a fun evening,” said Anita Bobich, PCC assistant professor in the School of Health Sciences.

Entry fee for the performance is a $6, and the proceeds will go to directly to PCC’s Dental Laboratory Technology program. The funds will be used to help support graduation activities, special lab project needs, and guest speakers, Bobich said.

“Normally, we sell water, candy bars, collect plastic bottles, and recycle to help raise funds,” she said. “So this is a first time we’re being a bit more creative.”

The idea of bringing Cassidy to campus came from Benjamin J. Popick, a Dental Laboratory Technology major slated to graduate in 2016. “I’ve known Evan for seven years,” Popick said. “He’s a big fan of Andy Kaufman, does a lot of characters, and has his own brand of humor.”

The Orange County-based Cassidy performs nightly throughout Southern California and was listed in the OC Weekly’s “Top 5 Comics to Watch” for 2014. He has hosted regular shows at the Brea Improv, including the monthly “Straight Fudgin’ Comedy” show since October 2012.
