Dez Washington Shines With 26 Points, 17 Rebounds, But Blair Offense Falls Flat; West Torrance Defeats Vikings, 65-54, in CIF Division 4-AA Title Game

Blair picked a really bad game to watch their offense go south.

The Vikings have six guys who average near double figures, and at half time, only Dez Washington and Dallas Murray had even scored. (Washington 12, Murray 5).

West Torrance also went on an 11-point run in the second quarter and for Blair, unfortunately, they never got within striking distance.

Despite 26 points and 17 rebounds from their junior star, Dez Washington, West Torrance cruised to a 65-54 victory Saturday evening at Azusa Pacific in the championship game of the CIF-SS Division 4-AA tournament.

Washington was so dominant, he had 8 more boards than the leading rebounder for West Torrance.

Washington finished 11 of 23 from the field, but the rest of the Vikings offense combined to go 11 of 35 on Saturday.

Alexander Mishaw was incredible for the Warriors.

He finished with 30 points and 9 rebounds.

Mishaw was an efficient 11 of 16 from the field and made one more free-throw (8 of 10) than the entire Blair team converted (7 of 13).

West Torrance was the definition of consistent.

They made 15 of 30 first-half shots for 50-percent, and backed that up in the final two quarters with a 9 of 18 effort.

If the cold shooting didn’t hurt them, the Vikings at one point had 9 fouls called on them to just 3 against West Torrance, so they were running uphill from the start.

No one on Blair’s side will make excuses, but most of the team was out all week until Thursday with the flu.

But as Vikings coach Alon Margalit put it, “anything less than our A-game wasn’t going to get it done tonight, and we were far from our A-game. But we still have a shot at a state championship, and I know our kids will bounce back.”

Washington went all 32 minutes and also added 3 steals, 2 blocked shots and an assist.

“We just couldn’t get it going tonight,” Washington said. “We will learn from this and get better before we start the state tournament.”

Caleb Smith also played 32 minutes for the Vikings and had 2 points, a game-high 8 assists, but also 6 turnovers.

Dallas Murray had 7 points, and Jack Dakan had 6 points on two 3-point baskets.

The loss for Blair (24-7) snapped a 7-game win streak, but it’s also the best run the school has seen since 1981.

West Torrance improved to 22-8.
