Pasadena-based celebrity Dr. Drew Pinsky, more popularly known as Dr. Drew, will be presented with the Father of the Year Award by the Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies (ABCs) next week.
Dr. Drew is a Pasadena resident who grew up here, graduating from Polytechnic School.
Dr. Drew will join fashion designer and author Rachel Zoe, who will be honored with the Mother of the Year Award, and TV personality and philanthropist Mercedes Javid, who will receive the Woman of Achievement Award, during ABCs’ Mother’s Day Luncheon Wednesday, May 9, at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills.
The annual luncheon is for the benefit of breast and prostate cancer research at the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center.
“Without a doubt, Dr. Drew, Rachel Zoe, and Mercedes Javid are three of the prominent advocates for health and wellness in our community,” said Gloria E. Gebbia, president of the ABCs. “We are deeply grateful for their commitment to the issues that we champion, and our mission to find a cure for breast and prostate cancer in our time.”
As Father of the Year honoree, Dr. Drew is a practicing physician, board certified in Internal Medicine as well as in Addiction Medicine. He is well known for his nightly show, “Dr. Drew,” on Headline News (HLN), the hit reality series “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” and the nationally syndicated radio show “Loveline” for over 32 years.
Currently, Dr. Drew is the trusted Health and Wellness Advocate and Host of KABC’s “Dr. Drew Midday Live” with Mike Catherwood. He also hosts and co-hosts multiple podcasts, including “Adam and Dr. Drew” with Adam Corolla, among many other projects.
Dr. Drew is the New York Times bestseller author of “The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America” and “Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again.” He is a diplomat of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow with the American College of Physicians (FACP). Dr. Drew is also a member of the board for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. He is the proud parent of triplets, Paulina, Jordan and Douglas.
Actress and comedian Kym Whitley returns to emcee the fundraiser, and Beverly Cohen and Sheri A. Rosenblum are co-chairing the event. Prior to the luncheon, a luxury boutique features a fashionable array of select vendors, all donating a portion of proceeds from sales to the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
“We are honored to have the ABCs’ annual support of our efforts,” said Patrick Wayne, chairman of the board at John Wayne Cancer Institute and son of the legendary actor John Wayne. “Thanks to the generosity of Gloria E. Gebbia, and our many generous donors, we are able to continue the most innovative and groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research, while building the next generation of leaders in the fight against cancer.”
Table packages at the Mother’s Day luncheon begin at $1,750, and individual tickets are $175.

The ABCs was formed 28 years ago by a group of dedicated philanthropists who had originally been associated with the Eddie Cantor Charitable Foundation, an organization that supported a variety of causes. Today, the ABCs are near 200 members strong and growing. Since 1990, the ABCs have raised more than $15 million to support the Institute’s research in advancing the treatment and detection of both breast and prostate cancer.
