The annual EMS Awards honor and recognize exceptional acts and service by individuals working or volunteering in California’s emergency medical system. On November 8th, 2016 the Emergency Medical Services Authority announced the 2016 EMS Award Recipients; four Sierra Madre Firefighters and Paramedics were recipients of the Clinical Excellence Award. The Clinical Excellence Award recognizes an EMT who provides noteworthy patient care and treatment during the course of their duties.
Clinical Excellence Awards are presented to the recipients’ at their home stations. The Sierra Madre Fire Department will present the following individuals with awards at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017.

• Paramedic Phillip Tibbs
• Engineer Ted Walters
• Firefighter Ashot Kglyan
The four Sierra Madre Fire Department members received the Clinical Excellence Award for belaying down a steep cliff to rescue two stranded individuals who were in imminent danger on July 17, 2015. The two individuals had been hiking Mount Wilson Trail when they went over the side, falling 50 feet and 100 feet. Both individuals were rescued and treated by Sierra Madre Fire Department personnel with the assistance of the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue.
