False Alarm Brings Large Police Response to La Salle High School, Lockdown at PHS, Norma Coombs

Triggered alert brought heavy police response to La Salle, but the signal was a false alarm, city officials said.

PHS went on voluntary lockdown temporarily in reaction to the La Salle alert, but only for 20 minutes, and returned to normal operations after La Salle was found to be safe.

Police had received a request for help from La Salle faculty via an electronic system which may have been a technical glitch. Officers went room to room in response to ensure there had been no actual incident.

The incident, reports City spokesperson Lisa Derderian, was an accidental triggering or a glitch of an app that’s used by faculty to alert authorities to several types of school emergencies.

The result was a large police presence responded as law enforcement erred on the side of caution.

There, in fact, was no actual incident requiring a police response and a city official said the La Salle campus was “all clear.”
