Pasadena-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has won an excellence in procurement award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Specifically, JPL has been awarded awarded the Dwight D. Eisenhower Awards for Excellence and will be recognized in Washington, DC, during National Small Business Week, May 5 to 11.

The Federal Procurement Award is given by the SBA in recognition of large, prime contractors who use small businesses as suppliers and contractors in services, research and development (R&D), manufacturing, and contracting.

JPL’s award is in the R&D category, according to an April 2 SBA statement.

“The SBA works to connect entrepreneurs to counseling and funding opportunities that provide the boost they need, no matter what stage of the lifecycle their business is in. Together with our SBA lending and resource partners in communities across America, small businesses are able to confidentially drive our economy,” said SBA chief Linda McMahon.

JPL facilitates its relationships with small businesses through its Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP), headed by its Manager, Felicia Aileen Bell, who was appointed in July 2015.

The OSBP is responsible for leading the efforts within NASA’s Acquisition Division to meet the small business contract goals from the agency, and advises NASA’s top leadership on all matters related to small business, promotes the development of NASA programs that assist small businesses.
