About $30,000 worth of property and equipment went up in smoke when fire hit a row of detached garages in the 100 block of West Glenarm Street in Pasadena Monday, just a few days after Fire Prevention Week.

Pasadena Fire Department firefighters rushed to the scene and knocked the fire down in about 20 minutes, but not before two of the garages were charred.

A report by Pasadena Star News said damage to the structures was estimated at $20,000 and the contents within the garages at $10,000. It was not known whether there were vehicles inside the detached garages when the fire started.

The Star News quoted Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Fire Department spokesperson, as saying there were no injuries although the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Derderian said the fire started in one of the units and quickly spread.

Five other garages behind the row of houses on Glenarm Street sustained damage from the fire and smoke and water.
