On Sunday, October 14th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. there will be a celebration of the opening of the family visitation site at Frist United Methodist Church in Pasadena. The church has entered into a unique collaboration with DCFS and All Saints Church to use former preschool rooms as family friendly site for court ordered monitored visits between children and their parents.
Visitation is the number one factor in family reunification. The goal is to reunite children with their parents and get them out of foster care and back into their homes. As a priority at the highest levels of LA County Government, DCFS developed a new methodology for court ordered monitored visits: engage the faith-based community as collaborative partners to provide family visitation centers on church grounds using volunteers as coach-monitors.
The Family Connect Pasadena visitation program grew out of this effort. Begun in January 2013, it uses a coach-monitor approach to support children and parents as they reconnect and rebuild bonds in a nurturing, comfortable, family friendly environment. There are currently three sites: DCFS family Room, FUMC, and Learning Works, with plans to expand within the Pasadena area and out to El Sereno and Highland Park.
Please join us as the City of Pasadena, LA County, First United Methodist Church, All Saints Church and the community celebrate this collaboration to better the lives of children and their families.
