Muir had a chance to keep its season alive with a win Thursday over last-place Glendale in a Pacific League contest.

The Mustangs (4-4 overall, 2-3 in league) went into the second quarter tied at 14.

But a 30-point second quarter propelled Muir to a 62-26 victory and its postseason chances still have a heartbeat.

Muir quarterback Darren Meyers started the onslaught with a 27-yard TD run, and then hit Arron Wilson on a 5-yard strike.

Wilson added to the lead with a 38-yard option run for a score. Wilson also had a 22-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Ahmir Davis scored on TD receptions of 65 and 44 yards, and he picked off a pass on defense.

Davis had five catches for 194 yards.

Jordan Baker had a 1-yard TD run for Muir.

Meyers finished 8 of 13 for 174 yards and 2 TD passes. He rushed for 62 yards.

“We were short-handed, but the boys played very well, Muir coach Antyone Sims said. “It’s always good to get a victory.”

The Mustangs will get Burroughs next week and then finish the regular season with the annual Turkey Tussle at the Rose Bowl against Pasadena.

It is believed that Muir will need to win both of its final two games to earn a playoff spot.
