Former primetime TV co-host of the medical talk show The Doctors and practicing OB-GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson and her Mobile Mom Squad donated 10,000 boxes of prenatal vitamins to Pasadena’s Elizabeth House Tuesday morning to to raise awareness surrounding the importance of prenatal care for mothers in the community, and beyond.

“We started the Mobile Mom Squad and we go around to different places where pregnant women need help,” said Masterson.

“Prenatal vitamins are huge to the health of the mother and the health of the baby before, during, and after pregnancy,” she added.

Dr. Lisa, as she is known, visited the Elizabeth House in her Mobile Mom Squad vehicle which offers a broad range of on-site prenatal health care services to underprivileged women to the nonprofit that is committed to ending homelessness and abuse in women and children.

The U.S. Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that all women of childbearing age consume 0.4 mg of folic acid daily to help prevent major birth defects.

Since it is possible some Elizabeth House residents may be not be getting the amount of folic acid necessary to help prevent these serious birth defects, Dr. Lisa’s Mobile Mom Squad delivered 10,000 boxes of Mteryti® and Mteryti® folic 5 prenatal multivitamins, according to a press release.

“We are just so honored to partner with Dr. Lisa today and her [Mobile] Mom Squad and these amazing gifts that she’s brought,” said Elizabeth House Founder and Executive Director Debbie Unruh.

The prenatal vitamins donated to Elizabeth House will be distributed to facilities across the Greater LA and Orange County area, including the Foothills Pregnancy Resource Center.

Elizabeth House has been serving women and children in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years and exists to provide shelter, hope and support to homeless pregnant women and their children by addressing their physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs in a nurturing atmosphere.

“We help them to move forward with the health of their baby,” explained Unruh. “And then we continue to support them long after they leave us as they go out into the community and we continue to provide that kind of support over and over again. We become their family,” Unruh added.
