[Updated] A stubborn 8:10 p.m. fire severely damaged a home in the 800 block of South Euclid Avenue Friday night. Arriving firefighters made an “aggressive interior attack” however the structure suffered a collapsed roof and downed power lines shortly after their arrival.

A boy home at the time the fire erupted called 911 and was able to get out safely. Two cats died.

The fire burned fiercely for more than 35 minutes before it was officially knocked down at 8:48 p.m., although hotspots with active flame popped up after that for another 30 minutes.

The intense blaze compromised the roof and other areas of the home. Fearing for firefighter safety, the on-scene Battalion Chief pulled crews out of the home as the roof sagged.

The electrical box caught fire and firefighters were unable to shut off the power as they fought the fire.

Pasadena and San Marino police blocked South Euclid Ave, between Fillmore and Alpine Streets during the incident.

A total of five family members were displaced but declined temporary housing from the Red Cross.

City sources said Saturday the cause of fire was electrical malfunction. The house is a total loss, they said.
