Friday Shooting Victim Dies, Shooting “Not Random,” Police Say

This photograph was taken shortly after police arrived on the scene of a shooting Friday, August 9, 2019 in the 100 block of Painter Street. The victim, Anthony Michael Tafoya Ortiz, a 24-year-old Los Angeles resident, was transported in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the upper body and died two days later in a local hospital.

On Friday morning shortly before 11 a.m. Pasadena police officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 100 block of Painter Street found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital in grave condition.

Despite the life-saving efforts of medical staff, police said in a statement Monday, the victim, identified by police as Anthony Michael Tafoya Ortiz, a 24-year-old Los Angeles resident, succumbed to his injury on Sunday morning at 10:36 a.m.

Detectives continue to further the investigation following up on leads.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed the shooting was not random in nature. The investigation is on-going and no further details are being released at this time.
