Continuing their surprising dominance over the team from down the freeway, Dodger Ace Zack Grienke and company stopped the LA Angels tonight, 5-2 at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers benefited from a balanced hitting attack that saw back to back doubles from Yasiel Puig and Scott Van Slyke in the fifth inning that saw the Dodgers take a 5-1 lead. A homer by Mike Trout in the the top of the ninth inning,  made the final 5-2. Trout also tripled earlier in the game.

The win was Grienke’s fifth consecutive decision, giving him a 10-2 record this season so far. He was in control throughout the game, leaving in the eighth for Kenley Jansen, who while giving up the homer to Trout, shut off any more threats from the Angels, striking out Pujols and getting Murphy and Gillaspie to ground out.

Angel starter Hector Santiago allowed nine hits and and five runs.

Both Howie Kendrick and Alex Guerrero homered tonight, while Kike Hernandez stood on the bases three times, as he was hit by a pitch and doubled.

Meanwhile, Yasmani Grandal was 3 for 4 with an RBI single in the fifth.

The victory was the Dodgers fourth in a row over the Angels, while the loss for the Angels was the fourth in a row.

Here’s how we blogged it.

It’s the first game of the Dodger’s first home “Freeway Series” against the LA Angels, on a blue moon evening. The Dodgers are riding a three-game winning streak over the Angels and are looking for their first four-game run over the Halos since 2006. Following the weekend tilt, the Dodgers will travel to Philadelphia on Monday and begin a six-game road trip against the Phillies (3 G) and Pirates (3 G) Tuesday night.

Los Angeles has gone 5-4 in Interleague play this year in pursuit of its third consecutive winning season against American League opponents.

Tonight’s game has already been announced as a sellout, the ninth so far.
