Fuller Theological Seminary released this statement Tuesday afternoon in response to a series of stories in this publication about “Fuller-connected” tenants who have been told to vacate their low cost housing in an apartment building recently sold by Fuller to developer Carmel Partners:
Fuller Theological Seminary recognizes that the issues surrounding the sale of property to Carmel Partners are fraught with emotions. After following all of our legal obligations and more prior to the termination of our master lease with Carmel on July 9, two households connected to Fuller remain in Carmel’s property. Multiple methods of communication have been in effect over the course of the past year to alert the residents as to the changes. These included community meetings, emails, letters, and the continual opportunity to meet one on one with Fuller Housing personnel to address specific issues pertaining to individual circumstances. Appropriate translation was provided as needed in all areas of communication. We have been made aware that the two households do have access to electricity and water. We will be attempting to meet with them in the near future in the hope of continuing to help them transition to other housing options.
