Funeral services will be held today for Kamryn Stone, an 18-year-old student shot and killed on September 14 as he reportedly tried to break up an altercation in the parking lot outside the Rose Bowl.

Stone was on the first day of a job working for a company hired to clean up the stadium after a football game between the University of Oklahoma and the UCLA Bruins.

Pasadena police have not yet made any arrests in the case, which also saw a 51-year-old Los Angeles man wounded.

“Detectives have interviewed a significant amount of potential witnesses, and after gathering information and piecing it together, we can confidently say that we are moving in the right direction,” Lt. Jesse Carillo told the Culver City Observer on Thursday.

Police said earlier that Stone may simply have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Attorney Carl E. Douglas of Douglas/Hicks Law is representing Stone’s parents, Barry and Kristie Stone.

“The family grieves for the loss of their son,” said Douglas. “Kamryn was a college student and budding entrepreneur who was focused on improving himself and his community. We will work tirelessly to hold those responsible for this tragic loss. How unfortunate it is that his life was taken as he tried to protect someone else. A Good Samaritan gone too soon.”

“With Kamryn gone I have lost a part of me,” said Barry Stone. “I must now be strong for his mother and sister who are devastated by his senseless death.”

The services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at Greater Emmanuel Temple Church, 3740 E Imperial Highway in Lynwood.
