The Pasadena City College football team rallied from 17-7 down late in the fourth quarter only to lose to host Moorpark, 23-17, in overtime Saturday night in a SCFA National Northern Conference game. The Lancers fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

PCC quarterback Trevor Hampton hit a streaking J. Turner Jackson down the sideline for an 86-yard touchdown pass that cut it to 17-14 with 5:37 left. Kicker Franklyn Cervanka then drilled a 48-yard field goal with 38 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 17-17.

In the OT, PCC received the first possession, but Cervanka missed wide left on a 33-yard FG attempt. Moorpark then won it on its first series when Nick Loftin beat the PCC defense up the middle on a draw play and ran in the game-winning touchdown from 15 yards out.

The Lancers played just their sixth OT game in their history and first since 2009. They are 2-4 in extra session games.

Jackson, a sophomore wide receiver, became the fifth player in PCC history to total more than 200 yards receiving in a game. Jackson, who earlier in the game caught a 65-yard TD bomb from Hampton, turned five receptions into a whopping 202 yards. No other player had hit the 200 mark with less than eight catches.

Cervanka’s heroic 48-yard kick tied for two others for the second longest FG in PCC history, one yard short of the school record set of 49 set by Nick Luevano in 2009. Cervanka had a busy evening as he made nine punts for a 37.1 yards average, including one that was downed at the Moorpark 1.

In his two college starts, Hampton, who started the season as the No. 3 QB, passed for more than 300 yards in each. He completed 21 of 41 passes for 313 yards (one interception) despite being sacked six times.

Running back Zander Anding led the team in rushing (15 carries, 44 yards) and had a team-high 10 receptions for 35 yards.

PCC’s defense made several big plays. In the second quarter, defensive back Marlon Dobbins returned a fumble 68 yards. Defensive backs Paul Gandara and Idrissa Simpson made interceptions as did lineman Patrick Webb on an errant shovel pass. Lineman Serge Vita made five tackles, four behind the line of scrimmage including two sacks along with two hurries. Linebacker Anthony Johnson added four tackles and four hurries.

Moorpark (2-6, 1-2 in NNC play) was led by the rushing and passing of Nick Davis, who passed for 244 yards and ran for an additional 98 yards (11 carries).

The Lancers next visit Allan Hancock College next Saturday, Nov. 1 in a 4 p.m. conference game at Righetti High in Santa Maria. PCC is trying to snap a 4-game losing streak.
