Pasadena Fire Department’s Explorer Post 200 is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 28, at Fire Station 33, located at 515 N. Lake Avenue in Pasadena.

For a donation of $5, get to know what Explorer Post members do and how you can help the program that educates the youth about the fire service in general and the Pasadena Fire Department in particular.

The Pancake Breakfast is from 8 to 11 a.m.

Since its inception in 1981, the Pasadena Fire Department Explorer Post has been a cutting edge program. The first program of its kind to exist in the City of Pasadena, it was created by then Firefighter Calvin Wells, who now serves as Deputy Fire Chief.

The Explorer Post is an affiliate of Learning for Life, which is directly associated with the Boy Scouts of America. These organizations have a history of success in helping young people develop career oriented drive and an emphasis on quality of life.

The initial program was designed to assist young people in acquiring jobs with the fire service, but over the years it has also become a life-training ground for young adults seeking alternative career paths. They have used the skills and training acquired through the Explorer Post to become responsible adults and succeed in their chosen fields.

Young members of the Explorer Post get to experience some unique learning experiences as volunteers. Training includes both classroom and practical applications, and in many instances is conducted by firefighters who serve the Pasadena community.

A ride-along component is available to qualified members of the Explorer Post, allowing them to participate in real emergency calls with Pasadena’s fire engines, trucks and rescue ambulances. This valuable learning experience can help an individual decide if a career in the fire service is really for them.

Fire Explorers also participate in various local and national programs designed to provide assistance to community members.

Pasadena Fire Explorers meet every other Saturday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon and encourage interested individuals to stop by.

For meeting locations or other information, please contact the Explorer Post Coordinator at (626) 793-1120.
