It’s only the second match of the year for both schools, but Pasadena was still able to make a statement in Wednesday’s 25-13, 25-8, 25-20 victory over visiting Marshall.
The Bulldogs’ (1-1) Taurie Magee had a game-high 12 kills and Samantha Guzman had 21 assists and never allowed Marshall (1-1) an opening to get back in the match.
“We were dominant, because we have a good core of 10 returning players from last year,” Pasadena coach Ashlee DiSalvo said. “We hit well today and our middle’s did their jobs.”
Grace Crawford added 15 digs and Sophia Lindsay had 7 aces for Pasadena.
Samantha James led Marshall with 8 kills and 5 digs.
“We weren’t doing the little things and didn’t hustle well,” James said.
Risejah Velasco chipped in with 15 digs and five kills, but the junior wasn’t happy with the Eagles’ performance.
“We played with so much more confidence yesterday (Tuesday’s win over Muir),” Velasco said. “We’re going to have to improve our passing to get better.”
Pasadena trailed just six times in a match that featured 116 points.
“Our passing today compared to yesterday was (about) 40-percent,” Marshall coach Travis Dancer said. “They had club players who got some of our players rattled.”
Neither school will play again until Sept. 8, when Marshall hosts El Monte, and Pasadena travels to Glendale High School.
Both matches begin at 3:15.
