Allred, a lawyer for some of the women who accused Bill Cosby of allegedly drugging and then molesting them, held up a sign that said “Bill Cosby, Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!” and shouted the message onstage Sunday before she presented the nominees and announced the winner for the Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program category at the awards ceremony at the Convention Center.
The stunt was met by both applause and boos. Just before Allred went on stage, awards host Mario Lopez had said the show wouldn’t be about politics, a Deadline Hollywood report said.
Cosby’s retrial ended Thursday with the court finding him guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand.
Allred, who held the same Cosby sign on the red carpet before the award show, also represents three of the five additional accusers who testified that Cosby drugged and molested them at the recent retrial of the disgraced comedian. It ended on Thursday with Cosby found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand. Five of Cosby’s 60-plus accusers took the witness stand during the trial.
On Thursday, Allred had made a statement saying “justice has been done” after the verdict was announced.
Cosby, out on $1 million bail, remains confined to his suburban Philadelphia home on Judge Steven O’Neill’s orders, until his sentencing. He continues to maintain his innocence.
