Pasadena Police now say an incident in which a Good Samaritan encountered a 33-year-old Los Angeles man shot in the chest in Pasadena and drove him to Huntington Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room around 6 p.m. Wednesday night may have begun with an attempted robbery in South Pasadena.

Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman said detectives worked all Thursday investigating to determine both what happened, and where it happened.

Late Thursday, Pasadena Police Lt. Tracey Ibarra told the Pasadena Star-News that detectives have concluded the incident began near Huntington Drive and Fremont Avenue in South Pasadena when two suspects in a car with the victim attempted to rob him.

The victim apparently resisted and ultimately he was shot by the robbers, Ibarra said.

Detectives believe the actual shooting occurred near Bradford Street and Arroyo Boulevard in Pasadena.

Jurisdictional protocol requires further investigation of the crime to be conducted by South Pasadena Police, because the incident began there, even though the shooting is thought to have taken place in Pasadena.

When contacted Thursday, an on-duty Watch Commander with the South Pasadena Police said he was not yet aware of the incident.

The victim was in serious but stable condition at the hospital, Goodman said.
