GoShare, the “Uber for Trucks,” Opens for Business in Pasadena

GoShare, an Uber-like app that brings vans and trucks to people who need to deliver or haul large items, is now available in Pasadena.

The year-old San Diego company became available to Simi Valley, Long Beach and Pasadena starting August 22. It advertises itself as an affordable, convenient way to load, deliver and unload cargo. Whether moving furniture into a new apartment, removing old junk from your home or setting up a new office, GoShare can accommodate any move.

“Before the Internet, you were still able to get this type of service, but you had to go the store yourself, pick up the truck, drive it where you needed it to be, do all the work yourself and then drop the truck back off,” said Shaun Savage, the CEO and founder of GoShare. “It would take you hours and hours to do that. What we do is save people time, which is one of the most precious commodities people have. With a few clicks of a phone, we send a guy to your door usually within 30 minutes, it’s just so much more convenient and simple.”

Much like Uber and Lyft, GoShare has a strict vetting process to ensure both customers and drivers are safe at all times, Savage said. All applicants for drivers must answer questions about their driving and criminal histories before even being considered for the job.

“For the drivers, we have a very thorough vetting process. Basically you fill out an application online and answer questions,” Savage said. “If the answers are all correct and they are qualified, we have them do an online orientation and test to learn the business. Then we have them do a vehicle inspection followed by a background check, which is very thorough.”

According to Savage, the background check includes a local county check, a national check, a driving history check a sex offender watch list check and a terrorist watch list check.

“One of the interesting challenges we came across early that I didn’t anticipate was trust,” Savage said. “When you’re looking at a new company for the first time and thinking about becoming a customer, you have to trust the company or you’re not doing to do business with them.”
