Half Chicken with hummus and salad

Nestled in one of the many small businesses along North Lake Avenue sits a gem of a restaurant for all lovers of hummus, shawerma, kabob, falafel and all food Middle Eastern. Grand Chicken is a mecca to all of us who love the taste of the Mediterranean. Fresh wholesome dishes with dashes of spice, touches of olive oil and plenty of great taste.

CFO Sevada Nazarian says this about Grand Chicken, “we have Persian Kabob, Mediterranean Shawerma and American Rotisserie Chicken. We have something for everyone. People start with the Rotisserie Chicken and then when they get to know us and trust us they try something else and then something else.”

Chicken Shawerma

All of this for a fast food price! “Forget about the 99 cent burger you don’t know what meat your getting. Our burgers are made from tri tip and our chicken is grade “A” choice, it’s good fresh and healthy,” says Nazarian.

I would have to concur after tasting the half rotisserie chicken plate which is served with your choice of hummus or rice, salad and a side of their garlic spread. I love garlic, but I love my friends and family too this is why Grand Chicken’s garlic spread is so good. It’s mild not harsh, with good garlic flavor but it’s not over the top. And the hummus is fantastic; good alone, with pita bread or the moist tender chicken. And the chicken: wow, it’s got all the benefits of a rotisserie with the added bonus of a great spice rub.

While I was there I also gave the chicken shawerma a try. Fragrant with a special blend of spices, the taste blossoms in your mouth. It is served with hummus, tahini, salad and of course warm pita bread: the perfect fixings for a great meal.

Beef Shish Kabob

The beef shish kabob is made from beef fillet and it is grilled until lightly pink inside (of course you can have it cooked anyway you’d like). The kabobs are served with rice (with real saffron-not turmeric) and salad. This is a great dish for the meat eaters out there.

Let’s not forget the vegetarians, Grand Chicken didn’t, they serve a super falafel. I’ve had many a falafel, they tend to be dry and well, tasteless. This was one of the best falafel’s I’ve had. It was moist and full of flavor with just a bit of a spicy kick. Combine them with hummus, salad and pita and you’ll never miss the meat.

I also gave the Tabouli a try. For those of you new to Mediterranean food, Tabouli is a salad made with chopped parsley, tomatoes, cucumbers, and green onions mixed with bulgur and dressed with a lemon-olive oil dressing. It is a staple of the Mediterranean table: delicious and very healthy. Grand Chicken’s is no exception.

So eat, drink and be healthy at Grand Chicken! Grand Chicken is located at 720 N. Lake Avenue, #9, Pasadena. They are open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. They deliver within a 3 mile radius and are available for catering. For more information call (626) 808-9717.
