The Shumei America National Center in Pasadena held the Green Life Food Festival on Sunday, February 19 to promote natural agriculture and a sustainable life.

Allicen, a Shumei member and founder of Radiant Botanicals, natural skin care company explained that the principles of Shumei include supporting and participating in natural agriculture, appreciating and sharing beauty and sharing a healing culture. These three aspects were apparent in the Green Life Food Festival as community members presented their sustainability initiatives and gardening projects, shared organic foods and viewed a handmade paper art exhibit.

Representatives from the Pasadena Learning Gardens offered seeds and advice on how to start your own garden while discussing the importance of slow community transformation and investing in people as well as organic food.

“Slow community transformation like slow food sustains us – we take the time to get to know each other and encourage people to talk about what they want in their city,” said Mark Rice, Master Gardener at Pasadena Learning Gardens.
