Gun-Brandishing Bandit Robs Macy’s Jewelry Department Sunday Evening

A robber pretending to be a customer pulled out a silver handgun and demanded thousands of dollars in jewelry be put into a bag he was carrying by terrified clerks at Macy’s on South Lake Avenue shortly before store closing time about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Pasadena Police Lt. Max Dahlstein said the robber made a clean getaway, but store security systems captured images of the suspect which will likely be released to the public as early as Monday.

The robber struck the jewelry department on the lower level; of the store at 401 South Lake Avenue shortly before the retailer’s 7 p.m. closing possibly hoping employees were busy doing other things besides focusing on him, Dahlstein said.

The stolen jewelry was worth about $6,500, he said.

Dahlsten described the man as a black man about 25 years of age who has tattoos visible on his neck, arms, and wrists. He is thin and stands about 5’9”. He wore white shorts.

The suspect fled on foot. There were no injuries.
