Happy Trail

It’s being called the East Arroyo Trail Connector, but Councilmember Tyron Hampton and generations of John Muir High School athletes know the trail as “Mustang Hill.”

“All of our teams, from track to tennis, use that trail to run and work out,” said the Muir alum, who also trained on it.

“It had fallen into neglect, and needed to be revitalized,” said Hampton Monday.

Now, nine years after the project was first proposed, and three months after Council approval, the trail, from the East Arroyo to the Central Arroyo Seco, will be newly dedicated.

Councilmember Hampton, in whose district the trail is located, will host the ribbon-cutting and light trail walk this Saturday. The trail project included improvements to the trail along with upgraded drainage and habitat restoration.

The City’s Department of Public Works hired Aramexx Group Inc., an Ontario-based public works and landscape contractor, to build the $150,000 project, last year. According to Public Works Director Ara Maloyan, Aramexx was selected from two prime contractors who submitted bids for the project advertised last July. The project was approved by the City Council in January.

The ribbon cutting and trail walk will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at North Arroyo Boulevard between Del Monte Street and Howard Street.
