Health Food Mecca True Food Kitchen Opens on Colorado Boulevard in Old Pasadena

 

After more than two years of anticipation, True Food Kitchen is set to open on Tuesday. This hip and healthy restaurant took over two existing spaces on Colorado Boulevard, one is a former gas historic gas station, to build a gorgeous indoor-outdoor dining space.

 

“We’re a fresh concept for Pasadena,” said General Manager, Nico Solomon. “People here take pride in their city and we take pride in what we serve so it’s a great fit.”

 

 

True Food Kitchen’s menu derives from a Dr. Weil’s anti-inflammatory diet and features plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. They focus on organic ingredients and seasonal dishes.

 

 

“I design the menu with something for everyone in mind,” said Chef Clint Woods. “It’s a balance of great ingredients with flavor in mind.”

 

 

A wide variety of breakfast foods, pizzas, bowls, entrees and sandwiches compliment a selection of beer, wine and cocktails. House made cocktails follow the same seasonal protocol as the food menu – expect apple, pear and cinnamon notes for fall along with a curated selection of beers and wine. The Autumn Orchard Sour pays homage to the season with muddled pear, juiced apple, lemon zest and mulled brandy with a hint of cinnamon.

 

 

Try a signature Ancient Grains Bowl with a blend of grains, miso glazed sweet potatoes, snap peas, caramelized onions and your choice of protein – the cubed tofu is the perfect choice to round out this vegan meal.

 

 

For non-vegetarians, the grass-fed beef burger is a definite winner. This flavorful patty comes topped with mushrooms and caramelized onions on a hearty flax seed bun – try it with a side of sweet potato hash or a tasty kale salad.

 

 

Even when eating clean, dessert is a must and few things can compare to chocolate. True Food Kitchen’s Flourless Chocolate Cake is a little piece of heaven. This moist cake comes served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzle of caramel sauce and a sprinkling of cocoa nibs.
